Our volunteers bring their expertise and passion for horticulture to the community, making a positive impact through sharing knowledge.

Volunteers not only contribute their time and talents but also benefit from ongoing learning opportunities. Monthly continuing education sessions are provided by our program, complemented by courses offered by the University of Minnesota, MN Landscape Arboretum, and Minnesota Horticultural Society. It's a rewarding way to expand your skills while giving back.

Start your journey to becoming a Master Gardener with Ramsey County

Application Process

1 / Submit your application

Fill out your application before October 1.

Registration fees are paid. 

2 / New Candidate Interviews

Candidate selection and interviews take place in November. Background checks are completed

3 / Welcome and Mentor Match Up

New candidates will receive their welcome emails and be paired with their mentors for their intern year

3 / Kick Off Intern Year

Mid-January kicks off the intern year and the online core course beings. Interns will receive further details

Program Details

When you decide to become a certified Master Gardener, you will begin your journey learning through the Core Course and completing a background check. The initial registration fee is $340, or $389 with a printed companion guide. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify. As an intern, you'll be required to complete 50 hours of volunteer service additional continuing education hours during your first year.

 

To maintain your certification, you'll need to complete 25 volunteer hours and 12 continuing education hours annually.
