Darren's Digest – June 2021

As the calendar turned over to June I was reminded that we are almost halfway done with 2021. Time flies! I have been so impressed with all that we have accomplished this year. Thank you for all of your hard work!

Hours Reminder

Now is a good time to review your 2021 volunteer and continuing education hours. Have you entered your hours into the State Master Gardener database? The State's Extension Master Gardener Volunteer website includes a lot of great information for using the state database including tutorials on logging your hours.

  • Logging Volunteer Hours

  • Logging Continuing Education Hours

  • Forgot your login info? Tutorial

  • View Last Year's Hours

  • Update your Listserv Settings

  • Update your Database Information

Another reason for reporting your hours and keeping them up to date is that the State Master Gardener Program has asked us to submit information showing our mid-year performance. To do this, we are asking all RCMG volunteers to make sure their volunteer hours are entered and up-to-date by the end of June. Thank you for your help with entering your 2021 volunteer and continuing education hours.

Volunteer Changes

As you might have heard there are some changes on the horizon in regards to Covid-19 and Master Gardener volunteering. The State of Minnesota, University and local cities have been easing some of the Covid-19 restrictions. These changes will likely impact many of our volunteer activities and programs. In the State Master Gardener June newsletter Tim Kenny provides some good advice about the path forward:

  • Plan ahead

  • Consider your local pandemic conditions

  • Above all – please remember to respect choices made by your fellow volunteers whether to participate in summer programming. Everyone needs to decide what’s best for themselves, their families, and their individual circumstances.

The State Master Gardener Program, in consultation with volunteers and program coordinators, have developed an update on Covid-19 and list of frequently asked questions (FAQ). I encourage you to review the FAQs for more information. We will all be working together to figure out the next steps with our RCMG volunteer programs.
