My Little Green Friends Volunteer Opening

There is currently an opening for one additional volunteer to join the My Little Green Friends team at Children’s Minnesota (St. Paul Children’s Hospital). My Little Green Friends is a uniquely and highly rewarding volunteer opportunity focused on therapeutic horticulture. Twice a week, volunteer teams of two Master Gardeners engage patients in educational planting activities at bedside or in activity rooms. The activities provide some moments of solace and fun at a time that can otherwise be most difficult for patients and families.
Requirements for this volunteer position include the following:
Completion of the hospital volunteer application process including online training and testing, background check and submission of proof of specific vaccinations if requested
Ability to volunteer 1-2 times per month on a reliable basis year round with each time being roughly 3-4 hours starting at noon on Mondays and/or Thursdays. Exceptions for vacations and unforeseen circumstances are built into the schedule. Note that this entails 40-50 hours of volunteer time minimum each year.
Volunteers are asked to remain on the team for at least two years given the upfront training involved. There are currently 10 volunteers on the team.
