Welcome to spring! Such an exciting time of year.
We are getting ready for the Blooming Saint Paul (BSP) project which features gardens nominated by the community. Blooming Saint Paul is a partner program between the Saint Paul Department of Parks and Recreation, the St Paul Garden Club, and the Garden Education Volunteer Program of Ramsey County. It recognizes people and organizations for garden beautification and environment-friendly efforts, such as supporting pollinators in St Paul. Volunteers of Ramsey County support the program by providing education resources and information, and by nominating gardens.
We receive overwhelmingly positive feedback from our nominees and are grateful for our partnership with St Paul Parks and Recreation, the St Paul Garden Club, and the Garden Education Volunteers for making this program possible.
So, let's go!
The Blooming St Paul Showcase Nomination Form will be available online in May. Anyone may nominate admirable gardens and spaces in Saint Paul during the nomination period. This is where you can take a drive, walk, or bike ride and nominate a garden (or multiple gardens) while earning volunteer hours. Please fill in the form to the best of your ability; you don't need to write in the name of the gardener if you don't know it, for example.
In June, watch for a Sign Up Genius to participate in the neighborhood nomination walks that happen in July. St Paul Parks and Recreation leads this event and Garden Education Volunteers visit local neighborhoods, scouting for inspiring gardens.
Nomination are due by August 1.
In July, watch for a sign-up for recognizing nominated gardens. Garden Education Volunteers visit the nominated gardens, place a stake honoring the garden, and leave resources for the gardener. This is the best part as often the gardeners are in their garden or will come out to see why we are paying so much attention to their garden. It's a great time for a conversation, answering questions, and offering resources,
I will keep in touch throughout the summer and look forward to meeting many of you. Please contact me with any questions.
Have fun in the garden!
